What is faith?
Hebrews 11.1 : "Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, and the conviction of those whom we do not see"
Definition : The word "faith" in the Bible is one of the words used to describe the attitude of man before God. Faith is translated by the Latin "fides" which has the first meaning of fidelity, which designates a pact, an agreement, an alliance. From the Greek word "pistis" defines as: to believe with the predominant idea of trust in God.
1 John 5.4 : "Because all that is born of God triumpheth over the world, and the triumph of the world is our faith."
"To believe" is the word of God which is tirelessly repeated to us:
- "Believe, only believe!"
- "Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved."
- "Who believes in the Son to eternal life."
- "By him (Jesus) is the remission of sins, and of all that you could not be justified by the law of Moses, whoever believes is justified by him."
- "If from your mouth you recognize Jesus as Lord, and if you believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved, because of the heart we believe for justice, and of the mouth we make the declaration for salvation. "
Ephesians 2.8 : "For by grace you are saved through faith, and it does not come from you, it is the gift of God."
Believing in Jesus as your Lord implies that you recognize who "He is" and that you accept His rightful position as the Son of God in your life. Faith is the firm assurance of the things we hope for, the demonstration of things we do not see, it stands out from religious systems based on rites; doctrines and traditions. The center of the biblical message is faith in Christ, because anyone who does not know Jesus and does not clearly confess Him as Savior is lost.
Romans 5.1 : "Being therefore justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, who owe us to have had by faith access to this grace, in which we remain steadfast, and we glory in the hope of the glory of God. "
In all religions, the faithful seek to reach the kingdom of heaven through works. Christianity, it is not a religion, its foundation is to receive the truth of the Gospel: God made flesh in Christ, who takes the first step towards us and opens a new path to salvation. It's not a human invention, it's a grace. This is why the proclamation of the Gospel is an absolute necessity for all.
Romans 1.16 : "For I am not ashamed of the gospel: it is a power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes, first of the Jew, then of the Greek, because in him is revealed the righteousness of God by faith and for faith, as it is written, The just shall live by faith. "
Conclusion : faith is the first condition to be pleasing to God, it remains a mystery, because it is the gift of God. It makes us hold fast the truth of the Gospel, the Holy Spirit shows us our heart and offers us a new way of life towards peace and freedom. Faith always operates a complete moral change, we are regenerated in our feelings and desires. It is with Christ that we base our faith, "Eyes fixed on Jesus, who is the author of the faith and who leads it to perfection." (Hebrews 12: 2) When the Christian walks by faith and not by sight, faith grows and bears fruit, it is confirmed by concrete actions, we walk in love and forgiveness. We see the promises of God, they become realities. When we experience true faith, it is an unshakable inner strength, for us disciples of Yeshua its greatest revelation is that: "The heirs are by faith, whether by grace, that the promise may be fulfilled. all posterity. " (Romans 4:16) It is by faith that we do not forget the command of the Master: "I am coming soon, remember what you have, that no one take your crown." (Revelation 3.11)
Romans 10.16 : "So faith comes from hearing, and what is heard comes from the word of Christ." Amen!
